Mayor Fouts has signed on in support of the “Mayors’ Compact to Combat Hate, Extremism, and Bigotry”.

With this, Mayor Fouts supports the following 10 components:
1. Expressly rejecting extremism, white supremacy and all forms of bigotry.*
2. Denouncing all acts of hate wherever they occur.
3. Ensuring public safety while protecting free speech and other basic constitutional rights.
4. Calling for fully-resourced law enforcement and civil rights investigations of domestic terrorism and hate-crimes.
5. Elevating and prioritizing anti-bias and anti-hate programs in our nation’s schools
6. Supporting targeted communities and bringing together civic and community leaders to build trust.
7. Celebrating diversity, promoting inclusiviity and challenging bias.
8. Promoting law enforcement training on responding to and reporting hate incidents, hate crimes and domestic terrorism.
9. Encouraging residents in their communities to report hate incidents and crimes, including using hot line and online tools.
10. Maintaining civil rights enforcement and strengthening hate crime laws when necessary.

*Clearly this is and should continue to be a non-partisan issue.  Mayor Fouts was glad to see that President Trump has denounced the KKK and Nazi’s, as well as any forms of discrimination. Mayor Fouts’ administration in Warren has appointed more persons of diversity than any Mayor in Warren’s History.

Skip McAdams, as the African American Fire Commissioner, presides over the BEST fire department in the state. Skip has been with me for nearly 8 years. Jocelyn Howard presides over the Warren Planning Commission. A commission which has a majority non-white, including the first Muslim to serve on that commission.

Mayor Fouts has appointed more persons of diversity than all of the previous Mayors of Warren. The City of Warren is currently the only city in Macomb County to celebrate Martin Luther King Day at City Hall, efforts which were recognized in a letter commending Mayor Fouts’ efforts at diversity, written by Bernice King, the daughter of Martin Luther King Jr.

Mayor Fouts also appointed the first female assessor, female city engineer, female executive assistant in the Mayor’s office. Mayor Fouts has appointed the first and only Diversity Coordinator in the state. First and only African American department executive appointments include City Attorney, Fire Commissioner, Communications Director, and Diversity Coordinator. Under his administration, many commissions and boards have their first African Americans including DDA, and Senior Housing, Senior Housing Assistant, Planning, and several others.  Mayor Fouts has also have appointed several Arab Americans to executive commissions and has appointed the first Asian American whom he later helped to get elected to the Warren Consolidated School Board.

Mayor Fouts has also appointed many seniors (over age 60) to executive positions, and has appointed several persons in their 20’s to key positions. Mayor Fouts’ appointees range in age from 21 to 86
